Meiying Saw

Updated: Jan 7, 2019

Meiying Saw first came to Melbourne in the very late 80s to go to a Presbyterian ladies boarding school, having spent half her young life in small-town Petaling Jaya, Malaysia, and then the other half in big-town Singapore. She left it all behind to move to Sydney for design school in the early 90s -- now there’s a formative experience.

After making a punk music - junk food zine, RagingYoghurt, for her final year project, she lived a magical life of pop magazine design in the time of grunge. During 20 years in Sydney, Meiying built her portfolio out of posters, illustrations and other bits and pieces for cultural organisations and arts festivals. She also started a blog, RagingYoghurt, that was simultaneously about nothing, and everything, and food. Through that blog she met your host, Deborah Rodrigo. She still has the receipt from that fateful first date in a Chinatown ice cream parlour.

Meiying now lives in Melbourne with her two amusing children, playing them 90s rock tunes from time to time. She works from her messy desk at the end of her bed, designing print publications and making illustrations for clients such as the Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre, Diabetes Victoria, Arab Film Festival Australia and Diversity Arts Australia
